The fourth Rugby World Cup 1999 for the second time were participants of the then five-nation championship (Wales, Ireland, France, England, and Scotland), and today's Six Nations (plus Italy) participants of the most elite European competition. The opening was in Cardiff in Wales at the Millenium Stadium, where the final match was played. The novelty of this championship is that the number of participants has increased to 20, and rugby has by then become a professional sport and professional rugby players have made most of the teams that were not the case in the previous championships.
The final was played 6.11, and Australia and France met in the final game in Cardiff to eventually win the Australians with a score of 35: 12. Australia's points were scored by Tune and Finegan by 5 points by laying that Burke even 21 times and hitting it seven times shot from the foul and twice conversion. Lamaison scored 12 points from four fouls. Third place wins Springboks by defeating All Blacks by 22: 18. The top scorer of the tournament was Gonzalo Quesada of Argentina with 102 points. The player with the highest layout was the biggest of all who ever wore a ball, Jonah Lomu with 8 goals.
